The success of Iranian cinema in terms of winning the Best Foreign Language Film Award in Oscars competition was 8.69 percent to rank it in the fourth position in this category.

It had 23 submissions in the 70 years of Academy Awards history, ISNA wrote.

Czechoslovakia also ranks fourth with 23 submissions and winning two awards in the same category.

Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film is one of the most interesting awards of the prestigious event and is given to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States of America with a predominantly non-English dialogue track.

The Italian film industry claimed 14 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category, the highest among all countries. It is the most successful country in the foreign language award, with 31 nominations from 64 submissions and four wins. The country scored 14 successes out of its 64 submissions.

The country received its latest award for ‘The Great Beauty’ by Paolo Sorrentino in 2014.

French film industry had also 64 submissions to the festival but managed to receive 12 awards in the Foreign Language Film section. It had earned 39 nominations in the Foreign Language category and is the first country in terms of nomination.

Dariush Mehrjui’s ‘The Cycle’ was Iran’s first submission to the Academy Awards in 1978 and was followed by the late director Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Through the Olive Trees’ after a 17-year hiatus in 1994.

‘Children of Heaven’ by Majid Majidi competed in the Oscars in 1998 and was nominated for receiving the Best Foreign Film Award for the first time in Iran’s history.

Farhadi’s ‘The Past’ and Reza Mirkarimi’s ‘Today’ participated in the Oscars in 2014, 2015 respectively.

Both Majid Majidi’s ‘Muhammad: The Messenger of God’ and Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’ competed in the big competition in 2016.

‘Breath’ by Narges Abyar was Iran’s representative in the 90th edition of the festival and Vahid Jalilvand’s ‘No Date, No Signature’ has the opportunity to be Iran’s 24th presence at the event.

Iran’s well-known helmer Asghar Farhadi received two Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for films ‘A Separation’ and ‘The Salesman’.
