Iran took part in the cultural festival Silk Road in Algeria in which a number of countries including China, Indonesia and Greece also participated.

Zafira Yacef Saadi, who heads Zafira — an artistic and cultural institute which hosted the festival — told IRNA that the festival’s goal is to promote fraternity, peace and friendship among the people.

She said, “I am personally interested in Iranian art and culture,” adding that Persian poets and philosophers are known throughout the world.

Commenting on Iran’s culture, civilization and art, she said that in the festival translated versions of some of the works by Iranian poets, including Attar and Rumi, were recited and received kudos by the audience.

Iran’s Cultural Attaché in Algeria Amir Mousavi said several ambassadors as well as Algerian elites including Minister of Culture Azzedine Mihoubi attended the festival.

He further said that such festivals provide opportunities for dialogue among Iran and Arab countries.

Jamal Shourjeh, a well-known Iranian artist and director, who is making a joint film with Algeria, attended the festival and was highly welcomed by prominent Algerian figures.
