Iranian photographer Forogh Alaei ranked first in the sports category of the 2019 World Press Photo.

According to British media ‘Guardian’, Alaei with her collection of the Iranian women trying to enter football stadium grabbed the first title.

 

Meanwhile, Iranian artist Enayat Asadi ranked third in contemporary subjects category with his photo of two Afghan immigrants at Iran’s borders.

 

World Press Photo Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

 

Founded in 1955, the organization is known for holding an annual press photography contest. Since 2011, World Press Photo has organized a separate annual contest for journalistic multimedia productions, and, in association with Human Rights Watch, the annual Tim Hetherington Grant.

 

Alaei started photography in 2015 and become a photojournalist for Donya-e-Eghtesad newspaper, the most famous economic daily in Iran. In a short time, she became fond of documentary photography and filmmaking.

 

The US media ‘Getty Images’ photographer John Moore received the World Press Photo year award for his photo ‘Crying Girl on the Border’.
