The first season of an Iranian animated series titled ‘Sarina’, aimed at raising the spirit of children suffering from cancer, has been produced in 13 seven-minute episodes, said the director of an Iranian animation studio.

Asadollah Dianati added the first season of the series was made in cooperation with Koodakan Charity, Tasnim News Agency reported.

He noted that at present, negotiations are underway with the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education for the production of the other four seasons of the series.

Commenting on the mood of children suffering from cancer, Dianati said, “These children constantly receive negative messages from their surrounding environment. The common belief that cancer is incurable is inevitably inculcated in them. In addition, their unfavorable physical condition and the annoying and invasive treatments they undergo dampen their mood and spirit. That was why we decided to make an animated series focusing on these children.”

He said, “The heroine of the animated series named Sarina contracts a disease due to the cruelty of a giant monster. Her disease produces side effects similar to those caused by cancer. She loses her hair.”

The story of the series, Dianati added, makes children suffering from cancer to identify with Sarina and believe that they are the hero of their lives.

“The second point about the animated series is that Sarina does not capitulate to her disease and refrains from losing her spirit and with her brother’s assistance fights the monster. She, eventually, defeats it and is cured.”

The first episode of the animated series, a cutout animation, was produced in the year to March 2019. Dianati is also the producer of the series. ‘Sarina’ was directed by Kianoush Abedi.
