Iran and Singapore are determined to broaden cultural ties and the ground is set for signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between their national libraries, said an advisor to the head of National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) on Saturday.

Hanieh Geraili noted that the recent meeting between the head of NLAI Ashraf Borujerdi and CEO of the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore Elaine Ng showed that the two sides evaluated the capacities for cooperation as positive, IRNA wrote.

They further underlined the need to expand cooperation in the sector, conduct joint research projects as well as librarian exchange programs for training courses, she said.

Iran and Singapore have voiced their readiness to conclude an MoU in which bilateral projects will be taken into account.

The meeting were held on the sidelines of the 27th conference of 27th Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in Singapore.

The conference, which was held from February 21-23, was attended by officials of more than 20 countries in the region.

Before her visit to Singapore, Borujerdi visited Qatar National Library and an agreement was signed to expand relations between the two libraries.

Based on the MoU, the two libraries agreed to exchange experience on preserving rare manuscripts.
