Yazd, Iran’s historical city, was registered as one the UNESCO’s world heritage sites in 2017 and the city is located in the middle of the Iranian plateau, some 800 kilometers south of the capital Tehran.

The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO has opened a new regional center in the central city of Yazd.

‘This center will be responsible for monitoring as well as other tasks and duties of the National Commission,’ said Acting Secretary Genral, Hojatollah Ayoubi during the inaugurial ceremony of the new regional center in Yazd on Tuesday.

The strategic council, which will be the important decision-making body in Yazd centre, will be headed by the governor, said the official.

Ayoubi called Yazd a ‘special city’ among other Iranian cities, saying ‘it was the first city where 200 hectares of its historical texture was registered in UNESCO heritage sites in 2017.’

The Iranian National Commission for UNESCO as well as the UNESCO itself are paying special attention to Yazd.
