TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s girl volleyball players advanced to the quarter-final after defeating Macau at the 19th Asian Women’s U19 Championships held in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.

The Iranian team defeated Macau 3-0, scoring 25-11, 25-18, and 25-12 in three straight sets.

The Iranian volleyball players have to play with the third team of pool B at round one-eight of the international tournament.

The Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship is an international volleyball competition in Asia and Oceania contested by the under 19 women’s national teams of the members of Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC). The current champion is China, which won its twelfth title at the 2016 tournament hosted by Thailand.

In a relevant development earlier in June, Iran’s national volleyball team defeated Argentina 3-2 in the Nations League in San Juan city.

Iran won the second, third and fifth sets (25-22, 25-22 and 15-9) while losing first and fourth ones (21-25 and 24-46).

Milad Ebadipour and Amir Ghafour collected 16 and 10 points, respectively and were the focus of Iran’s offense.

It was the second victory of Iran in the competitions where they had gained victory from Australia and conceded to France and Japan. Iranians will face Italy in their next game.

In a relevant development in late May, Iran’s national team defeated Australia in its second fixture at the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Men’s Nations League in France.

The Iranian squad faced the Australian side in a fixture played at the Kindarena in the Northern French city of Rouen.

Iran, which had sustained a 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-17) defeat at the hands of the hosts in its opening match the previous day, started the first set strongly as middle blocker Seyed Mohammad Mousavi Eraghi led the team 9-5.

The Australian volleyball players then clawed back into the game as Lincoln Alexander Williams managed to slam a powerful spike.

The Iranians maintained pressure and could leapfrog at end of the first set to close the business at 25-23.

The Aussies started the second set strongly, but Iran managed to keep composure and drew level 6-6.
