 Japan awarded the Iranian translator and interpreter Shohreh Golparian for her contribution to promoting cultural exchanges between Japan and Iran through art.

According to a press release from the Japanese embassy, the government of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2018. Among the 205 individuals and 49 groups, Ms Shohreh Golparian, the president of SMALL TALK Inc. received the Foreign Minister’s Commendation.

‘Ms. Golparian worked at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and the NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) as an interpreter and held various positions such as the project assistant professor at Global Support Center of the Tokyo University of the Arts. She has contributed to promoting cultural exchanges through art between Japan and Iran,’ the embassy press release added.

The embassy statement noted that ‘during her tenure as the interpreter and translator at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting from 1989 to 1992, she introduced many Japanese films such as the ‘Kita no Kuni Kara’ to the Iranian audience.’

‘Furthermore, she founded the SMALL TALK Inc. in 1999, and has contributed to the promotion of cultural relationship between the two countries through the various projects such as production of joint films between Japan and Iran and Translation. Japanese-Iranian joint films such as ‘The Wind Carpet’ and Iranian films such as ‘A Separation’ of that she was one of the producers is highly acclaimed in Japan and have gained the attention of Japanese people,’ it said.

The embassy press release noted that ‘The Embassy of Japan in Iran wishes her continued success in her future activities, especially in promoting artistic and cultural relationship.’
