Massoumeh Ebtekar on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan

Women's rights > blog > Massoumeh Ebtekar on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan

For me, “Ramadan” is fresh air. Maybe that is why it is called a holy and kind month.

How can a person who has many concerns in their daily life, suffers from lack of emotions and spirituality, and witnesses the pain and suffering of man in the face of war, violence, poverty and hunger as well as the destruction of nature find refuge or a fresh atmosphere?

For me, “Ramadan” is fresh air. Maybe that is why it is called a holy and kind month.

To practice control in Ramadan is an opportunity to get rid of our bad habits; for a habit’s realization to become impossible reminds us we can be something other than what we normally are, and provides us with an opportunity to practice patience and perseverance.

Ramadan is an opportunity to focus on the will and discretion; an opportunity to address the forgotten or marginalized dimensions of existence.

Ramadan is a passage to an inner journey, an opportunity for dialogue between the self and our creator; the opportunity to renovate and purify the soul and mind, which is the basis of individual and social transformation.

Ramadan is an opportunity to become anew and refreshed…and you; if you want to change the world, start with yourself…and let your start be Ramadan.
