Women's rights > blog > National document on sexual health training being prepared

The national document on sexual health education and training is being prepared by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, Tasnim reported on Tuesday.

A meeting was held in this regard on Sunday with officials from the Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Health, and the Vice Presidency for Women’s and Family Affairs in attendance, the report added.

The document aims to promote awareness and education on sexual health and sexual abuse using an Islamic approach.

Empowering teachers, parents and peers in adolescents’ sexual health education, developing and implementing education packages to improve sexual health for certain groups, establishing policies and interventions to promote indirect sexual education through media? are among the subjects of the document.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality and not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or infirmity.

More than 1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are acquired every day worldwide, which can have serious reproductive health consequences beyond the immediate impact of the infection itself (e.g., infertility or mother-to-child transmission) in some cases.

More than 30 different bacteria, viruses and parasites are known to be transmitted through sexual contact. Eight of these pathogens are linked to the greatest incidence of sexually transmitted disease. Of these 8 infections, 4 are currently curable, while the other 4 are viral infections and are incurable, including, hepatitis B, herpes simplex virus (HSV or herpes), HIV, and human papillomavirus (HPV).
