Iranian actress Mina Sadati received the Best Supporting Actress award for her rôle in ‘Searing Summer’ at the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF).

The award was presented by actress Shu Qi at the awarding ceremony of Tiantan Award 2018 during the 8th edition of the festival in Beijing, capital of China, April 22, Xinhua reported.

‘Searing Summer’, directed by Ebrahim Irajzad, narrates the story of Nasrin, who is faced with a dilemma of either staying in an unhappy marriage, or divorcing her husband but losing custody of her daughter in the process. Instead of merely picking the less bad alternative, Nasrin makes her own way when she takes her daughter with her and moves, without her husband’s approval. But when he suddenly reappears in their lives, the situation changes dramatically.

Irajzad’s flick has earlier taken part in the 28th Stockholm Film Festival in Sweden.

‘Scary Mother’, a Georgian-Estonian drama about a woman who chooses to follow her passion for writing, putting it ahead of her family, was named as the best picture at the Chinese festival. The film’s lead performer Nato Murvanidze was named best actress.

The prizes had been decided on by a panel of jury headed by Wong Kar-wai. British wartime drama, ‘Journey’s End’ collected two prizes, one for Paul Bettany as best supporting actor, and another for Hildur Gudnadottir.

Caucasus-set drama, ‘Dede’ also won two prizes. Mariam Khatchvani was named best director, while Konstantin Esadze earned the cinematography prize.
