TEHRAN – Two books on world literature have shared the award for best literary research at the 8th Parvin Etesami Literary Awards while works in other categories were only awarded with honorable mentions.

“The Intercultural Literature of Expatriate Writers in Germany” by Narjes Khodai and “World Literary Schools” by Maryam Hosseini received the award during a ceremony at Jamaran Hosseinieh on Saturday.

The award has been named after Persian poet Parvin Etesami (1907-1940), one of the most prominent Persian poets of the 20th century. Her poetry is based upon themes of social, humanitarian and mystical concepts, and contains no allusions to romantic love or feminine sentiment.

“Parvin is really a unique poet,” a director of the Parvin Etesami Literary Awards, Hojjatoleslam Mohammad-Ali Mahdavi-Rad, said at the award ceremony.

“She has talked of serious issues in her divan… and her poetry is full of human aspects,” he added.

“Today Was Saturday If You Were” by Fariba Shadlu and “Leili Azar” by Azam Saadatmand won honorable mentions in the poetry category.

In the drama section, “Keep out of the Reach of Children” by Fereshteh Farshad, and in the fiction category, “Let Troy Burn” by Anahita Arvan received an honorable mention.

“Farewell on the Street” by Maryam Eslami and “The Horned-Noses” by Azra Musavi won honorable mentions in the children’s literature section.
