Tehran, June 26, IRNA – The Secretary General of FIFA Fatma Samoura in a message hailed Iranian national team performance against Portugal.
“Portugal, congratulations. Iran you fought very hard last night and can hold your heads high,” Fatma wrote in his Twitter account.
Iran claimed a surprise 1-1 draw on an extraordinary night of football against Portugal Monday night.
Despite its high merits and professional performance, the Iranian team did not manage to advance to the next round of World Cup competitions.
Iranian people were glued to their television sets last night to watch the match, while many preferred to watch the game, with families and friend in the public places across the country, including parks, stadiums, and coffee houses.
Iran’s Team Melli put on display such high quality games that even though they failed to advance to the next round, their overall achievement was highly praised by their compatriots across Iran.
