The historic city pf Yazd in central Iran was picked as the capital of modern art in the country, considering its abundance of potential, announced a local cultural official.
The Director General of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Yazd Province Majid Javadianzadeh announced the news during the closing ceremony of the 8th annual Yazd Art and Cultural Treasury, farsnews.com reported.
According to the official, the historic and UNESCO-registered city of Yazd has a great deal of cultural potential that must be introduced.
He further referred to the beauty and uniqueness of Yazd architecture, describing it as a gallery of art.
Javadianzadeh said that historic architecture of Yazd brings back past memories to visitors.
The cultural official also pointed out that given the fact that Yazd is known globally, it can host global cultural events.
Yazd is one of the top historic tourist attractions in Iran, visited by millions of tourists annually.
