Iranian director and film editor Mastaneh Mohajer has been selected to serve on the panel of jury at the 11th International Arab Film Festival of Oran (FIOFA), scheduled from July 25 to 31 in Algeria.
Mohajer participated in a number of international festivals and is the producer of ‘Esrafil’ directed by Ida Panahandeh.
The festival will feature 30 works including 10 feature films, 10 shorts and 10 documentaries competing for various distinctions, including the grand prize ‘Oran Wihr’ (lion of Oran).
According to sources close to the organizers, Algeria will compete with two feature films ‘Until the End of Time’ by Yasmine Chouikh and ‘We Were Not Heroes’ by Nasredine Guenifi.
In addition to the competition component, the organizers have planned three training workshops dedicated to ‘short film production’, ‘fiction film scenario’ and ‘visual effects design’.
Tribute will be paid to late Algerian filmmaker Farouk Beloufa and Egyptian actress Chadia in the 2018 edition of the festival.
Beloufa, who died of a long illness in France on April 9, is the author of ‘Nahla’, a classic of the 7th Algerian and Arabic art, produced by the RTA in 1979.
In the previous edition, ‘Waiting Swallows’, a film by Algerian Karim Mousaoui, won the grand prize of the festival.
