Famous British actress, Joanna Lumley says Iran is a beautiful modern country after her visit here. She adds it is unlike the image reported to us by the media. What I saw was very different.
Joanna Lumley has played in a wide range of TV series and films, including “The Wolf of Wall Street”. Recently, she has completed making a documentary called “Joanna Lumley’s Silk Road Adventure” in which she travels to eight countries including Iran. BBC Persian has conducted an interview with her and broadcast her documentary.
Joanna Lumley called her trip to Iran as the best thing that has happened to her, saying: “Arriving in Tehran was amazing. I had a very limited knowledge of Iran. The news is always about problems in Iran, and not about what the country is really about. No one had told me this is a first class, green, modern, and very beautiful country, magnificent and loveable.”
She continued: “By seeing the shopping centers and restaurants, you can see what good taste Iranians have. It was fantastic. Everything about Tehran was exciting. As for Yazd, it is much more than I can talk about. I was really impressed. And Shiraz also fascinated me.”
She added: “I wanted to buy everything I saw in Iran, but I couldn’t because I had to fly. I am a vegetarian and ate the best vegetarian foods in Iran. Each one was more delicious than the next. The non-alcoholic drinks were also fabulous.”
Speaking about Iranians, Johanna said: “The people of Iran are very friendly, generous, and polite. They were always ready to explain, share, and give. I felt great. I must say Iran is a tremendous country.”
She says: “Of the eight countries I visited, my best memories are from Iran. When I stood in front of the tomb of Cyrus the Great which is a global monument, it was an unbelievable feeling.
