Iranian short documentary “Lotus” directed by Mohamadreza Vatandoust will attend Beirut International Film Festival’s competition section.

In its fourteenth presence in international festivals, Lotus will represent Iran in the 18th Beirut International Film Festival, which is due to be held April 22-28 in Lebanon’s capital.

The film is expected to be screened on April 22.

The Beirut festival is said to be one of the most credible film festivals of Asia and Middle East, famous as “festival of directors”. The festival has hosted many well-known artists such as Abbas Kiarostami, Isabelle Huppert, Francis Ford Coppola, Juliette Binoche and Marco Mueller.

In its previous participations in international film festivals, Lotus has won Big Sky Documentary Film Festival’s Artistic Vision Award, Golden Statue and Certificate of Appreciation and Cash Prize of the Roshd International Film Festival Awards for Best Short Documentary Film. It has also been nominated in other festivals, such as UK’s Sheffield International Documentary Festival, US’ LA Film Festival, Manchester Film Festival, and Macedonia’s Winter Apricots-Prilep International Film Festival.

The 13-minute documentary film tells a story of an old woman who has waited 12 years for permission to cross the lake to an island where the last resident of Lafourak waits for her.
