The nominees for the 13th edition of the Celebration of Iranian Cinema Critics and Screenwriters were released on Monday.

‘When the Moon Was Full,’ directed by Narges Abyar, was included in all sections at the annual cinematic event.

Abyar’s blockbuster is to contend with other Iranian films to win the top award as best film, best directing, best script, best actor in a leading role and best actress in a leading role, IRNA reported.

‘When the Moon Was Full’ was also nominated for best actor in a supporting role, best actress in a supporting role, best cinematography, best score, best editing, and best technical achievement.

The film premiered internationally at the 23rd Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival in Estonia where it won the Audience Award.

It tells the story of a woman from Tehran who marries an Iranian man living in southeastern Iran near the border of Pakistan. Soon after, she discovers that her brother-in-law is an extremist trying to recruit her husband for his violent cause.

Elnaz Shakerdoust, Hootan Shakiba, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, and Shabnam Moqaddami are among the cast.

Winners will be announced during a gala organized by the Society for Cinema Critics and Screenwriters on January 3, 2020.
