Ensieh Khazali made the remakes on the sidelines of the ‘International Conference on Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment’, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as she met Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary General of the OIC.
The 3-day event, held from November 6 to 8, was dedicated to honoring the successes of Muslim women throughout history and at present.
Khazali, referring to the human catastrophe unfolding in Gaza including the killing of women and children, stressed the need to support innocent civilians by increasing unity and synergy among Islamic countries.
She also announced Iran’s readiness to help the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to expand activities, especially in cyberspace, with the help of Iranian experts in information technology and artificial intelligence.
The OIC official, for his part, talking about women’s working group in this international organization, said, “We ask all members to cooperate to strengthen this working group.”
International Conference on Women in Islam
The conference sought to shed light on the successes of Muslim women, highlight the contributions of women to the development of the OIC Member States, and counter the negative propaganda that portrays Islamic religion as an obstacle to women’s rights.
The Conference aimed to demonstrate that Islamic teachings have always been just and equitable towards women.
Five working sessions were held during the conference, with ministers, officials, scholars, and thinkers delving into the status of women and their rights in Islam, examining ways to empower Muslim women in education and work, and discussing issues related to women in contemporary societies.
The Conference also produced “The Jeddah Document on Women’s Rights in Islam.” This document is designed to serve as a comprehensive official reference on women’s rights in Islam, for Member States, decision-makers, jurists, researchers, experts, and thinkers.
It will be submitted for adoption at the forthcoming Islamic Summit, scheduled to be held in Gambia at the end of this year, and subsequently presented to all relevant international fora.
