The Vice President for Women and Family Affairs said, “The government has approved laws for the flood-hit areas that should be announced to the public.”
During a visit to the flood-hit areas of Lorestan Province, Masoumeh Ebtekar said, “Although the implementation of these laws may take time, the government has made serious decisions in terms of giving loans and fixing the damages caused in the flood-affected areas.”

She traveled to the worst hit areas of Lorestan to assess the actions and assistance provided to the nongovernmental sector and organizations active in providing supplies, support and relief assistance.

According to her, post-flood mental trauma management, especially the issue of resilience, is very important in the country, and its readiness to relaunch is widespread throughout the province.

Ebtekar added, “Affected communities should be trained according to the context and issues at hand in order to know how to react.”

She mentioned the specific issues, problems and needs of women, and said that during her visit to Lorestan, a meeting was held with relevant authorities in this regard.

Ebtekar stated, “The government did well in relieving and rebuilding infrastructure after the flood, but there are many problems, and coordination between the executive and management bodies is very important.”

She noted the efforts made in this area and said, “Informing the public about the actions taken is very important.”

It is essential to provide services for women who are part of the vulnerable groups in the flood-stricken areas.

In a meeting with the School Of Nursing and Midwifery and Head of the Pregnant Women’s Health Department of Lorestan University of Medical Sciences, Massoumeh Ebtekar added, “Great attention should be given to providing midwifery and counseling services on reproductive health and infectious diseases of women in areas affected by the Lorestan floods.”

She stated that 47 births were performed in the flooded town of Poldokhtar and its villages during the critical days with no deaths and with careful planning and handling of cases and this in itself is worthy of consideration.

Ebtekar continued, “This city should be presented as a success story for other flooded provinces.”

Flooding in Lorestan, along with destruction of infrastructure, caused an estimate of 15 trillion rials in damage, and so far with 15 people dead.

Massoumeh Ebtekar also met with female rescue workers in Lorestan.

The Vice President of Women and Family Affairs initially visited the flood-affected areas with rescue workers.

At first, she was accompanied by members of the Chief of Staff of a group of NGOs active in helping the flood affected areas of Lorestan. She warmly appreciated the efforts of these volunteer forces, especially women and girls, who were helping.
